Before you order

Computer and laptop buying advice for Canada

Start with the work your equipment needs to do, then confirm compatibility and the complete cost. Moe Repair’s Tech Finder suggests specifications and opens matching Amazon.ca searches. It does not verify individual listings, current prices or a particular computer’s supported parts.

Laptops: choose your applications before your specifications

List the programs, school requirements or workplace tools you need. For general Windows multitasking, 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD are useful planning starting points; heavier applications or large local files may justify more. Check upgradeability before choosing soldered memory or fixed storage. Read the laptop buying guide for RAM, storage, screens and warranty checks.

Storage: match the interface before comparing speed

A 2.5-inch SATA SSD, M.2 SATA SSD and M.2 NVMe SSD are different choices. Check your exact computer’s service manual for the supported interface, size and mounting requirements. Plan file migration and keep a separate backup. The SATA vs NVMe SSD upgrade guide explains the terms and pre-purchase checks.

Monitors: choose size, resolution and refresh rate together

Consider readable text, desk space, the computer’s graphics outputs and the full cable connection. The computer monitor buying guide explains practical checks for work, everyday use and gaming.

USB-C docks: check the entire connection

Confirm your laptop’s video features, supported monitor combinations and charging requirements. A USB-C-shaped port alone does not guarantee video or charging support. Use the USB-C docking station compatibility checklist before buying accessories.

Wi-Fi and networking: identify the connection problem

Check whether the issue affects one computer, one room or every device. Read the Wi-Fi and networking buying guide to compare routers, mesh systems, adapters and wired options before ordering equipment.

Desk accessories: check fit and connections

Choose keyboards, mice, headsets and stands around the devices you own and the way you use your desk. The computer desk accessories guide covers wireless receivers, port requirements, stand fit and everyday buying checks.

PC upgrades: check the complete system

Before buying RAM, a graphics card or a power supply, verify the supporting hardware and physical space. Use the PC upgrade compatibility guide for memory, graphics, processor, storage and PSU checks.

Compare the final Canadian purchase cost

Check the Canadian-dollar total, applicable taxes, delivery, seller, item condition and warranty or return terms. Prime eligibility and stock can change and must be checked on Amazon. A cheaper listing may not include the same charger, cables or warranty coverage.

Repair, upgrade or replace?

A healthy computer with replaceable parts may still suit your needs after an upgrade. A system with several faults or incompatible software may need a different plan. Explore laptop repair and assessment, or ask Moe Repair about your model and intended use before ordering parts.
